Thanks for visiting my blog!
I started this blog to promote the use of Yoga as Medicine. In December of 2010 I graduated with my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Elon University and started practicing in the Outpatient Sports Medicine setting with a focus on manual therapy and functional exercise. In observing the effects of injury and pain on the physical body, I realized that the emotional and psychological aspects of a person are also affected. This spurred me to look for a more mindful and integrative way to practice. I felt like there was more I could do, that I was missing an integral aspect in treating my patients as a whole and not just their injury.
Through my own practice of mindfulness based meditation and yoga I began to ask myself how I can bridge what I personally practice with what I teach day in and out to my patients. In November of 2012 I found the answer and started my training with the Professional Yoga Therapy Studies certification program for medical providers.
I am proud to announce that I am now offering Medical Therapeutic Yoga in the Outpatient Physical Therapy setting. I look forward to the opportunities, challenges and growth in my practice as a physical therapist, teacher, and yogi, and am excited to see where this path will take me!
